100G Fully Redundant High-performance Fabric Solution

In this case, QSFPTEK engineers created a highly reliable 100G high-performance network architecture with redundancy features using MLAG and Peer-link 100G network switches and 100G optical modules.

Background

 

Challenge

 

We are confronted with the challenge of implementing adequate link redundancy on this particular link. This involves employing switches for data backup, with 100G switches serving as back-end storage switches. Additionally, we need to ensure high reliability to guarantee uninterrupted system operation in case of hardware failure, thereby ensuring the system's high availability. As a result, the S7600-32C will be utilized as it has a brief upgrade period for its MLAG system, the ability to manage MLAG separately, and the capacity to isolate the failure domain, among other benefits, without causing a significant business interruption.

 

Solution

 

Considering the customer's need for redundancy and the need for data backup of the network, QSFPTEK engineers chose two switches, the S7600-32C and S7600-48Y8C, to build a highly redundant network system.




● First, the S7600-32C 100G switch features 32 100Gb ports, accompanied by easily replaceable fans and power supplies that can be inserted or removed without causing any interruption to the system.

 

●The S7600-32C switches function as peer switches in MLAG, with their connection established through IPL (Inter Peer Link) port channels. The 25G switches are connected to the MLAG peer switches using either regular binding or packet LACP interfaces. Additionally, the downward connected port on one side of the 100G switch is configured with the same port channel number as that which is MLAG enabled.

 

● Third, the S7600-32C switch is configured with 32 QSFP28 ports, and the S7600-48Y8C switch is configured with 48 SFP28 ports and 8 QSFP28 ports. The SFP28 ports can be directly connected to the office service end through a network cable to achieve 25G service networks, while the 100G port can be connected to the server to realize a 100G redundant network.

 

● Moreover, two S7600-32C switches use BGP protocol to exchange routing information. In switch technology, BGP protocol is usually used to connect border routers between different autonomous systems. These switches use the BGP protocol to exchange routing information with each other to choose the best path and forward network traffic. BGP plays an important role in the operation of the modern Internet, especially in service provider networks.

Additionally, the S7600-32C switch can leverage MLAG to ensure link redundancy.

 

The use of MLAG can improve the load-sharing capability of the devices. The member devices of MLAG receive the traffic sent by the access devices through link bundle load sharing and then forward the traffic together. As a result, MLAG can significantly improve the reliability of the network system. Also, this network system uses the VXLAN function. Using VXLAN can help switches expand the scale of the Layer 2 network, realize cross-network virtual machine migration, improve network isolation and flexibility, and realize automated network configuration and operation, and maintenance.
