S5300 Series Features

Each model of the S5300 series PoE switch has unique characteristics, and selecting the right switch requires an understanding of these differences. In the following sections, we will explore the features of these PoE switches to help you make an informed decision:

Stacking Capacity

Stacking technology allows multiple switches to be connected together and managed as a logical unit, providing various advantages and solutions to common problems. This includes increasing network capacity and bandwidth, simplifying network management, and reducing downtime. You can choose the appropriate switch based on the number of devices you need and whether you plan to expand in the future. If you only need a few switches and do not plan to expand, the S5300-24P4TS and S5300-8P2S without stacking support can meet your needs. If you need a convenient management solution for a smaller number of switches, the S5300-24P4X supporting stacking of two devices is a good option. However, if you require a larger number of switches, the S5300-48P6X and S5310-48P6X are undoubtedly the best choices, supporting stacking of up to eight switches and making management even more convenient.

PoE+ Port for Easy Deployment

Providing power and data connection to end devices with a single cable through the PoE+ ports on the switch is undoubtedly the best option to simplify deployment. End devices do not need external power sources, reducing the number of cables and providing a more convenient connection for devices far from power sources. The S5300 series PoE switches support the 802.3af/at PoE+ standard, providing up to 15.4W PoE or 30W PoE+ per port. However, it should be noted that the configuration of end devices should be based on the total power budget of the switch.

Power Budget

The power budget of a switch determines how much power can be provided to connected devices through PoE ports. When deploying PoE devices, it is necessary to calculate the total power consumption of connected devices so that it does not exceed the power budget of the switch. If the power consumption exceeds the power budget, it may cause the switch to overload or shut down, affecting the normal operation of the entire network. If you have fewer PoE devices and do not need a large power budget, you can choose the S5300-8P2S with a 130W power budget, which can provide 15.4W PoE or 30W PoE+ per port. If you have more devices, you can choose the S5300-24P4TS, S5300-24P4X, or S5300-48P6X, which offer a 370W power budget and provide 15.4W PoE or 30W PoE+ per port. If you require a higher power budget, you can choose the S5310-48P6X, which provides a maximum power budget of 740W and supports 15.4W PoE or 30W PoE+ per port, meeting your usage needs to the fullest.

Smart Fans Design

The S5300 series PoE switches, except for the S5300-8P2S model, are equipped with intelligent fans that adjust the fan speed based on the switch's real-time temperature to reduce noise and power consumption. The S5300-8P2S is designed without a fan for noise-sensitive environments such as hotels, classrooms, and offices that require a quiet setting. Because there is no fan, it makes almost no noise. The S5300-24P4X and S5300-48P6X are equipped with two intelligent fans, while the S5300-24P4TS and S5310-48P6X are equipped with three intelligent fans, so you can choose according to your needs.

Based on the above features, you can choose the S5300 series PoE switches that are suitable for your business according to your needs.

Application

Hotel

In a hotel environment, directly connecting terminal devices to PoE switches can avoid the use of power adapters and power cords, simplifying deployment and reducing management and maintenance costs. In the guest room, we can use the S5300-8P2S to connect with terminal devices, which is a fanless switch and can ensure a quiet environment even in the room. It is suitable for various terminal devices including computers and Wi-Fi. For the aggregation layer, the S7300-24X2C can be used, which can provide high speed while supporting up to eight switch stacking to simplify management. It has 2x 100G uplink ports that can be connected to core switches such as the S7300-48X2Q4C to achieve higher bandwidth capacity and throughput. This three-layer network architecture can provide a robust, scalable, and efficient solution for the network needs of hotels.

SMB Network

The office network environment in enterprises is complex and involves a wide range of business transactions, with different network strategies for each business segment. Additionally, there is a diverse array of terminal devices, including printers, cameras, large displays, and telephones. It is important to ensure that all terminal types can simultaneously receive power and transmit data. QSFPTEK uses a 3-Tier architecture that supports multiple network types and provides flexible network expansion. To accommodate the increased load demands of the core layer, S7600-32C 100G switches are used, which feature Multi-Chassis Link Aggregation (MLAG) for bandwidth expansion and redundancy. This highly efficient system enables prompt upgrades and provides isolation in the event of a malfunction, ensuring secure data transmission. The aggregation layer employs the L3+ S7300-24X2C switch, which supports iStack and 40G/100G uplink capabilities. Access layer devices are equipped with PoE+ and iStack support, allowing for connection and power supply for a large number of terminal devices. The described scheme is feasible and efficient for enterprise office networking

Conclusion

In general, PoE switches can provide both data and power over a single cable, making terminal device deployment more flexible and convenient. By providing power directly, it reduces the number of cables used, lowering management and maintenance costs. It also allows for device installation without being limited by power sources, greatly increasing flexibility. When selecting a PoE switch, it is important to consider the usage scenario, power budget, and number of ports. Only by considering these factors can you choose a PoE switch that truly meets your needs.
