Company Size: 1,000-5,000 employees
Customer Voice: Intrado Life & Safety is a company focused on public safety and emergency response solutions. It provides various services, including emergency call handling, location services, emergency management, and secure communications, among others. As data volumes explode, the public safety industry increasingly needs efficient communications. So, we decided to build a new emergency response command center to improve public safety services' efficiency and response capabilities. The new command center will process large amounts of real-time data from multiple sources, including 911 calls, geolocation information, and video surveillance data. To ensure that this critical information can be processed and transmitted quickly, we need a high-bandwidth, low-latency network solution.
Challenges
High bandwidth and low latency: Emergency response centers need to handle large amounts of real-time data, such as 911 calls, geo-location information, and video surveillance, which places extreme demands on the network's bandwidth. At the same time, any latency affects the speed of emergency response. We must provide sufficient bandwidth and ensure extremely low latency to ensure that data can be transmitted and processed quickly.
Network reliability and redundancy: The center's work is a matter of public safety, and any network disruption or failure could lead to catastrophic consequences. Therefore, the challenge is to provide a highly reliable network architecture that is not only fault-tolerant but also provides redundant backups to ensure that the network continues to function properly even under extreme conditions.
Flexibility: The new emergency response command center network will also need to consider how to ensure that the network architecture provides enough flexibility to support the needs of various devices and scenarios.
Solutions
QSFPTEK Topology Design:
Firstly, 10G links and 100G links are used from the core layer to the access layer equipment. These two links not only dramatically increase the data transfer speed but also provide sufficient transmission capacity for high-bandwidth applications (such as high-definition video surveillance and real-time data analytics), ensuring that bandwidth constraints do not lead to network congestion.
Secondly, the core switch is configured with MLAG. If there is a problem with one link, data can be quickly switched to other paths to avoid disruption, ensuring that emergency response teams can continue receiving and sending critical information. In addition, VXLAN improves the network's scalability and makes its structure more flexible.
Thirdly, AP+AC provides flexibility and mobility, making working more convenient for staff. Center staff often need to move freely in different areas, especially when dealing with emergencies, and sitting at a fixed workstation may not meet work demands. By providing Wi-Fi connectivity through a wireless AP, staff can use mobile devices such as laptops, tablets, and smartphones to accomplish their tasks more efficiently without the constraints of a wired connection.
